Airline Radio model 62-403, large 13 tube wood console with movie dial

This 1938 Airline 62-403 was a top-of-the-line Airline "Movie Dial" model.
A 13 tube chassis powered this large floor console
and included a green tuning eye and pushbutton tuning.
It was made by Wells-Gardner for Montgomery Wards -
Wells-Gardner used the same cabinet for one of their own labeled radios.
(see the radio at the bottom of the page)
In the late 1930s, Airline featured "movie dials" on
many different models including some table radios.
The dial is a frosted glass plate acting as a screen for
the rearly projected dial marking images only seen when the radio is powered on.
A lamp projects through a celluloid cylinder imprinted with
dozens of radio station call letters and locations.
Switching to the Short Wave bands, lifts the cylinder to project
another portion with the Short Wave frequencies.
The inside chassis label below shows the 13 tube types and locations.
Many of the Airline "Movie Dial" radios had chrome plated chassis.
