Bendix 526C

Bendix 526C top view showing marbling

This Bendix 526C was the only catalin radio that Bendix made
and is one of the more common catalin radios that appear on the market.
It was designed by James Franklin Glover in 1946.
The cabinet and knobs are beautifully swirled green and the base/grill is a solid black catalin.
The green catalin cabinets vary in tint from olive green to turquoise shades and
marbling can range from subtle to very dramatic swirled patterns as the photos below reveal.
Many of the color differences can be attributed to changes caused
by sun and smoke exposure, a catalin characteristic.

Although the catalin version was only available in green,
it was also available in different polystyrene cabinets;
including a swirled dark chocolate with a tan grill,
and a white with brown swirls and a maroon grill version.
It was made using 4 separate pieces; the black catalin grill/base,
2 "bumpers" on either side of the dial, and the main body of the cabinet.
